What's "Trigger" Value? Follow
We most usually send out the beacons configured for the most common use case (visitor walks up to an object) and distance (approx. 10 ft).
To give you more control, these beacons don't technically work around setting a "distance" / number of feet you'd like to prompt the notification, but in fact, they work around the strength of beacon's signal as understood by your phone (an RSSI reading).
Once you've installed the beacon and would like to refine tune or change the distance it triggers, here is what you can do:
-
Walk to an approximate stop you'd like the notification to trigger at.
-
Open your app on your iPhone.
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on! -
Open the Menu (top right) and hold down the "gear" icon near settings for 5 seconds.
This will open the almighty DEV PANEL. -
On the DEV PANEL, you'll find a number of nifty diagnostic tools - tap to open "Notifications"
Here you will find all of the notifications related to your app, as well as there "RSSI" readings. -
Find the notification you're looking to test or modify, and direct your attention to the "Beacon Trigger" sub-row directly below it.
-
While standing in the area you'd like the beacons to trigger the notification, observe and take note of the beacons’ RSSIs (the three numbers that fluctuate - but not more than 5 points in either direction).
RSSI Trigger Recommendation
We recommend getting the RSSI reading as close to -70 as possible, and set that as a default. The beacons currently set for around 10 feet range, and we might need to increase or decrease the power of your beacons if you'd like to extend or shorten the range.
