BluVision™ (Beeks) Beacons are the smallest form factor beacons we have found that still maintain battery life and customizability.

Installation

Once you've received the beacons package from Cuseum in the mail, proceed to the following steps.

STEP 1: THE PACKAGE

Your package contains a packing slip and your BluVision™ (Beeks) Beacons.

• On the packing slip, you'll see the beacon IDs. This tag is how all of your beacons will be identified. The tag will look something like "TEST-1" or "TEST-3". The TEST refers to your organization ID, while the number (also known as the Minor) is a beacon's unique ID within your space. Also on the packing slip, you'll find what's called a Major, the number that corresponds to your organization ID.
• Each BluVision™ (Beeks) Beacon contains a label on the front displaying its tag.

STEP 2: THE LIST

Ensure that you have a spreadsheet for all of your beacons. The first column should list off the beacon's ID and a second column should contain notes. This can help keep track of which beacon is meant for which object, notification, or location.

STEP 3: BEACON PLACEMENT

Now, it is time to place the beacons on their physical locations.

1. Peel the sticker off the back of the beacon.
2. Place the beacon firmly against a wall or flat surface.
3. Hold the beacon for 5 seconds, and release.
4. Thats it!

BONUS: INSTALLATION PRO-TIPS

• Place beacons at chest height, flat against a wall.
• Avoid placing beacons behind wood, marble, or water.
• Be sure to stick beacons to a clean, dry surface to ensure they remain faceted to the wall.
• The beacon should be as close to the object or location as possible to ensure proper proximity alerts.
• Beacon signal ranges from 10-15 feet, so try and avoid concentrating too many beacons in one location.

STEP 4: SETTING UP THE CMS

You will be required to enter the Major number and Minor number of each BluVision™ (Beeks) Beacon into the CMS.

Testing

Once you've set up the beacons, you will be able to test using your iOS device and the enterprise app we have provided. Currently we support the following devices.

• iPhone 5

STEP 1: OPEN YOUR ENTERPRISE APP

Save all changes in the CMS, open the enterprise app, and wait for 1-3 minutes. This will give the server enough time to send the new information to the enterprise app.

STEP 2: ENABLE BLUETOOTH

Enable Bluetooth on your device. Swipe up and click the Bluetooth icon highlighted above.

STEP 3:

Walk towards the beacon with the application open. If you have set the beacon to a foreground or background alert, you will receive an alert similar to the one shown below.

Editing Beacon Settings

1. In order to edit the BEEKS iBeacon settings, you will need to download the 'Beacon Maker App' which is available here.

2. Once you have downloaded the app you will need to enable your bluetooth settings on your device.

   

3. Now open the application and navigate to the "Beacons" section on the footer.

   

4. You will now see a list of beacons that the device has been detected by your device. If you pull down on the list you will refresh the list.

   

   On the right side you will see the beacon signal strength.

   The larger the -dBm ( the weaker the signal is being interpreted by your smart device.

5. In order to change the signal strength you will need to determine which beacon you are going to be editing. You will need to walk up to the location of the beacon and place your device as close to the beacon as you can while still being able to use your device screen.
6. Refresh the list and look for the iBeacon with the strongest signal (dBm). Tap on it and it will display the details of the beacon.

   

   Click on the details to Connect with the iBeacon. Once you have connected, you will see a list of other details for the beacon.

   

   Scroll down to the iBeacon section and you will see a few different settings you can edit including Major/Minor, UUID, Standard Broadcast, and Energy Saving Broadcast.

7. Adjusting Power Level

To adjust the power level select the Standard Broadcast setting, tap on it and it will bring up the following screen.

To adjust the broadcast range (signal power) slide the slider to the right. To reduce it, slide it to the left. The higher the power the less likely the app will miss seeing the signal however it does not always translate to the app triggering on an event even if the signal is detected.

To adjust the frequency click the Broadcast Rate and move the slider to the right or left. Frequency is listed in Hertz, the higher the Hertz the more often the iBeacon will send it's signal. We default them to 5 Hertz +/- 0.2 but the higher the interval the more likely a device will detect it.
