Create Objects

Updated this week

You will learn how to create objects in no time in this article, so you can use them in your tours and other applicable sections of the app.

We are using The Fighting Temeraire painting in our example - The painting depicts HMS Temeraire being towed by a paddle-wheel steam tug towards its final berth in Rotherhithe in south-east London in 1838 to be broken up for scrap.

Go to the Content Menu

First, click on "Content > Objects" on the left side of the screen:

You will see the Objects list (probably empty the first time you use it):

You can use the search box later on to quickly access any objects you need to work on.

Click on "Add Object"

Right after you click on "Add Object" you will enter the object creation menu:

Fill in the requested boxes, and make sure the "Status" is set to "On Display" in order to make this object visible in the app (as shown in the image above).

You can also fill in the optional details in case you have them at hand. Simply scroll down before saving changes so you can see metadata boxes such as:

  • Location

  • Work date

  • Mediums tag list

  • Periods tag list

  • Dimensions

  • Accession

  • Credit line

  • Notes

  • Origin

These are optional. you can do them later on.

Once you hit "save" the object will be created, and you can proceed to upload your assets (image, text, audio/video) by clicking on "Design Editor":

Design Editor

To add modules, simply click on the "Add module" button you need:

There's no save button inside the design editor, because your assets will be uploaded dynamically. Only the text module requires saving:

Images, audio and video modules will auto save for you (just hit the "upload image" or "upload media" button depending on the module you're working on):

Then, double click on the file you will be uploading and the system should start uploading it:

Rearranging Modules

You can rearrange modules anytime, so you can organize your content as you see fit. All you need to do is place your mouse in the module's header area and it will automatically turn into a multiple arrows icon. This indicates you can drag and drop. Click and hold while you move the module up or down (it will auto save the position as soon as you release the mouse):

In this photo above, I moved the image up. The object looks better now based on my needs (visual first and description below).

Rearrange media inside of a module

You can upload multiple media files to a single module, which also means you can rearrange them inside of the module based on your needs:

Click and hold the six dots icon (highlighted in red) while moving the desired file up/down (it also applies to audio/video modules).

Don't forget to work on all applicable languages in this object and any object you create. If you don't, the app will default to English content (only applicable if your app includes multi language support):

Once your objects are ready to go, you will be able to select them on your tour stops, maps and other places you want to display them on (see our articles related to tour stops, maps, and other FAQS available in our collection).

This is how the object looks like after adding it to a tour stop (web app view):

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I display objects inside indoor/outdoor maps?

  • Yes

  • You can pin the object to indoor/outdoor maps in the "Object Details" section

Q: Can I link my object to the app's Home Section?

  • No, but you can use custom pages for this scenario

Q: Can I add a stop number for my object?

  • Yes, go to "Object Details" and scroll down to the very bottom. You will see a stop number text box you can use to assign a stop number (from 0 to 999).

  • Users can easily find the object by using the keypad search + the stop number you assigned.

Q: Can users search for objects via text?

  • Yes, you can use the text-based search to find objects and tours

Q: Can the text in my objects be automatically translated to all supported languages I included in my plan?

  • No. You need to translate your text modules one by one in order to fully support multiple languages.

  • We have a very cool AI feature that helps translating text modules, and even creates Text-to-Speech audios in most supported languages. Feel free to reach out to your Customer Success expert, or [email protected] for more information.
